Shelves Shelves are available in many styles. Use a freestanding floor-to-ceiling shelving unit to hold books, CDs and collections. You can also install built-in shelves around two sides of the room halfway up the wall like wainscoting and paper, or paint the wall\’s top half. Put doors on these to hide the contents if desired. Another great idea is to opt for wall shelves shaped like letters, and pick letters that spell out your teen’s name. Hang these wall shelves over her desk, and display some of her favorite items in them. For a unique display and storage option, install floating wall shelves in your teen’s room. Floating wall shelves don’t use brackets for support. The shelf is attached by mounting it over a support bar in a channel in the back of the shelf. Furniture Select a bed with built-in storage like drawers underneath and shelving above. You can put armoires and steamer trunks to work holding out-of-season clothes and shoes of your teen. For a funky display, choose a clothes tree for hanging pajamas and robes as well as scarves and jackets. If your teen has a book collection, settle upon bookcases like Barrister bookshelves, ladder bookcases or open bookcases. Barrister bookshelves look beautiful and suit a traditional or rustic decor. They often have beveled glass doors and ornate wood carving, and are large enough to house a small library comfortably and in style. If your teen prefers contemporary style, choose ladder bookcases. They are more modern in design and are shaped like a ladder that leans against the wall. Containers Ideal for storage, plastic bins or totes come in all colors and sizes. You can stack three bins of different sizes in a corner to create an interesting look. Place plastic containers with wheels under the bed for easy access. If your teen has an elaborate jewelry or magazine collection, use baskets of different sizes to hold them. To make laundry simpler, use large canvas container as laundry hampers. Choose containers that coordinate with the room\’s colors. Make your teen’s room look spacious using these storage solutions.
